When choosing a place to stay on the "Coffee Coast" of South Africa, we found a lil' gem in the Mdumbi Backpackers. Equipped with hot showers, lounging area with pool table, group dining area, self serve kitchen, wonderful staff - I could go on. Mdumbi Backpackers is a coop that gives back to the community. There is a pre-school and adult center for computer learning as well as a community center.
We stayed in the round abouts fit for 3. Traditional style housing that the locals still use as their own abodes.
Our meals were prepared by the "mamma" a local resident who showed us how to make "Xhosa" bread, it has a soft centre and a beautifully chewy crust.
With plenty of things to do, hosted by the local guys, the landscape and serenity of the area is both relaxing and breath taking.
